Depression

Depression can cause people to feel sad or empty for long periods of time, affecting one’s thinking patterns and physical health. In some cases, depression can lead people to have thoughts of suicide.

Symptoms of depression can be different for each person. One’s gender, culture, or age may change how they react to depression. However, most forms of depression include these common symptoms:

  • Frequent crying and periods of sadness
  • Feeling worthless
  • Sleeping too much or too less
  • Anxiety
  • Anger
  • Difficulty enjoying activities
  • Unexplained physical pain
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Changes in weight or eating habits
  • Thoughts of suicide

A person dealing with depression is likely to have trouble dealing with daily stresses. At times, the simplest activities—getting out of bed, bathing, and dressing—can feel unbearable. These struggles might make the person feel helpless or alone. Even if something good happens, feelings of depression make the experience miserable.
