FAQ's

What is Pastoral Counseling?

A pastoral counselor is a bit different than a clinical counselor or therapist. While they may provide similar services, pastoral counselors integrate spirituality, faith, and theology with psychotherapy to help people seeking assistance with personal, family, marital, and faith issues.

Does a client have to be a Christian or a member of organized religion to receive services?

No! There is absolutely no requirement that a client needs to already be a believer or be ascribed to any faith tradition. In fact, those struggling with faith/spirituality issues tend to benefit greatly from the spiritual focus of the pastoral counseling approach. Non-Christians, atheists, and agnostics are welcome!

Will I be “preached to”, “judged”, or “indoctrinated” in the therapeutic process?

Absolutely not! Our practice is a safe and compassionate place of healing. While the therapist may draw upon theological and spiritual training in the delivery of services, there is not a requirement to weave that into the therapeutic process. Modern psychology is at the heart of our strategy for providing healing. In fact, pastoral counselors receive the same level of clinical training that secular therapists do, PLUS receive additional theological and spiritual training that might empower them to guide the caregiving in uniquely effective ways.
